Book Conservation & Repair workshop – Weekday

9:00 – 4:00 pm with a 1 hour lunch

Please Review: Due to limited parking at the shop during weekdays, it is necessary to take public transportation or carpool for these workshops. After you register, we will ask if you will be driving and how many you can bring along, if you’d rather ride with another student, or will be taking the local bus. We have space for two cars in our lot and are located close to a TTC bus stop at Warden and Lawrence.

$250 CAD plus a $30 materials fee = $280 CAD

This class is a hands-on workshop for those responsible for the care, maintenance, and repair of book collections. Repair treatments covered in this course will include hinge tightening, flat paper mending, tip-ins, and 2 spine replacement methods. Participants are encouraged to bring books for analysis, treatment, and discussion.

In this course you will learn:

Assessment of book repair needs
Conservation treatments of book structures
Paper repair for books
Toning tissue and cloth for repairs

Level of Experience / Skills Required

All levels; no prior book-making experience required. Some comfort with accurate measuring, folding, and cutting with blades/knives is needed to master the skills taught in this workshop.

All tools and materials included but students are welcome to bring their own small bookbinding tools.
