Guarded Leaf Binding

When attaching folded plates or oversized maps and prints, attachment of folded paper helps compensate for the thickness and provide good way to attach the plate to the binding. This structure has been used for maps and foldouts in bound volumes and works great for painted or printed pages that should be larger than the closed book.

In this workshop, students will attach guards to plates and folded sheets, then sew the book together, and attach a limp cover to the book.

In this course you will learn:

How to use the bookbinding tools.
Knowledge of bookmaking materials and their qualities.
How to make the tunnel book.

Level of Experience / Skills Required
