Laced Case Binding

In the 16th Century, quick, inexpensive books could be made with handmade paper as the cover. Instead of heavy boards and leather, the limp paper cover could be laced to attach the text block to the cover. This workshop will teach you to create a soft- bound book that will hold up to repeated use. The interior paper pages are connected by fiber cords, and then laced into the handmade paper cover.

In this course you will learn:

How to use the bookbinding tools.
Knowledge of bookmaking materials and their qualities.
How to make a sewn book with a laced on cover.
Ways to use narrative imagery in the book form.
