Pierced Paper Binding

9:00 – 4:00 pm with a 1 hour lunch

$280 plus a $40 materials fee = $320.00 + HST

This decorated binding is a modern twist on a 16th century pierced vellum binding
method. In this workshop we will sew the textblock is on vellum supports and add
leather covered endbands. Participants will cut and punch patterns on a cover of
handmade paper before painted boards are adhered to the inside. The textblock is
laced into the cover to complete this binding. Participants will go home with a
completed book and handouts for use at home.

In this course you will learn:

Preparing sections for the book.
Sewing structure of each binding
Proper use of bookbinding tools and materials.

Level of Experience / Skills Required

All levels; no prior book-making experience required. Some comfort with accurate measuring, folding, and cutting with blades/knives is needed to master the skills taught in this workshop.

All tools and materials included but students are welcome to bring their own small bookbinding tools.
